Battlefield is a series of video games. It was launched in 2002. It was started out on Microsoft Windows and OS X with Battlefield 1942. A Swedish company name as EA DICE has developed the series and is published by an American company named Electronic Arts. Large maps, teamwork, and vehicle warfare are the major focuses of the series. The main focus of the PC games in the series is on online multiplayer. The Battlefield series has been played by more than 50 million players across the world. Across 11 games and 12 expansions has been released since its start in 2002. Battlefield series focuses on online multiplayer battles and playing in groups has become important.
Battlefield 1942 has used refractor game engine, It introduced the “Conquest” gameplay mode. In this game mode, players fought for “control points” throughout the map. Two expansion packs were unveiled in 2003, Battlefield 1942: The Road to Rome and Battlefield 1942: Secret Weapons of WWII. Battlefield Vietnam was launched in 2004. It moved the setting to the Vietnam War. It was built on an updated Refractor engine with many gameplay improvements, like the ability to fire personal weapons while seated in vehicles, and supporting dense foliage.
The series keeps record of online stats for each player. It allows the players to get rank promotions and weapon unlocks and gets awards like medals, ribbons, and pins. A class system has been presented within all the Battlefield games. Each class has dissimilar primary weapon. These primary weapons have also various types of equipment. These make differentiations in the roles of players on the battlefield. The ability to engage other players in mêlée combat with a knife has been present in Battlefield games. Since Battlefield 2142, the series has added an award of dog tags for each player killed using a knife.
In October 2012, Fox Broadcasting Company declared their plans to make a one-hour-long television show based on Battlefield: Bad Company. Producer of the show will be John Eisendrath. Co-producer of the show include Patrick Bach and Patrick O’Brien of Electronic Arts, and Doug Robinson of Happy Madison. In July 2016, Paramount Television declared that it will adapt the game series for television.
There is a rumor that Battlefield 5 is also in production and will be launched in 2018 after DICE is finished up with the expansion packs for 2016’s Battlefield 1.
